Course Description:
"Play Therapy 101" is an introductory course that delves into the foundational principles and practices of play therapy as a mental health profession. Designed for individuals seeking to work with the mental health of children, this course explores the theoretical foundations, historical context, and practical applications of play therapy in therapeutic settings.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to integrate play therapy interventions into their work with children, demonstrating a solid understanding of the profession and its relevance in mental health practice.
Course Objectives:
Objective 1 Define play therapy as a mental health profession.
Objective 2 Learn why play therapy is the ideal therapeutic approach for working with children aged 2-12.
Objective 3 Display a basic understanding of current brain research and neuroscience that support play therapy as the ideal treatment approach for children aged 2-12.
Objective 4 Overview of a brief history of play therapy in the mental health field.
Objective 5 Discuss the facilitation of trauma-informed play therapy.
Objective 6 Learn 4 play therapy interventions to apply to your current practice with children.
**Continuing Education Credits:**
This course meets the requirements for 6 non-contact CE credits under the Association for Play Therapy catagory "special topics".
CE is awarded for Masters Level mental health students or professionals specific to play therapy.
Credits are offered and awarded to participants who attend the event in its entirety and complete and submit a post test.
Play Therapy Toolbox offers continuing education specific to play therapy. APT Approved Provider 18-533 maintains responsibility for the program.

Susan is the co-owner of Play Therapy Toolbox, a digital resource to help support, train, and equip the next generation of play therapists and play therapy supervisors. She is the past president of the Illinois Association for Play Therapy, a mother of 3 children, and lives in Hinsdale with her husband of 17 years.
